7 New Year’s Resolutions Any Caregiver Can Keep

By Pete Lane, 9:00 am on

Ever since the ancient Babylonians made the first New Year’s resolution almost 4,000 years ago, people have been making and breaking these promises to themselves. If you are a family home caregiver in Centennial, CO, then here are seven you can easily keep this year.

1. Make a Healthy Food Choice

The number one resolution on many people’s list is to lose weight. Most people, however, will not keep that resolution because they don’t want to exercise. Therefore, make a resolution to choose a healthier foods at least once a week to help ease yourself into a healthier lifestyle.

2. Listen to More Music

There is something very relaxing about listening to music. Choose your favorite type and listen to it regularly to give yourself a little boost of joy and relaxation.

3. Accept Help

While many people are willing to help the family caregiver, most caregivers are reluctant to accept that help. This year, resolve to accept more help from friends, family and respite caregivers in Centennial.

4. Keep a Journal

Journaling is powerful as it rereleases your deepest emotions and allows you to vent them. While some people find it helpful to journal each day, make a resolution to try it at least once this year.

5. Give Away More Smiles

While your life can seem very frustrating right now, find something to smile about every day. Then, give that smile away to someone who needs it.

6. See Your Doctor

You cannot do an effective job as a family caregiver if you do not take care of yourself. Therefore, see your family doctor this year. If the doctor recommends further testing, be sure to follow through.

7. Take a Hike

Scientists know that people who expose themselves to nature feel better. Therefore, resolve to take a hike at least once this year. Even a short one can help you feel much better. Even if you don’t have the time for a conventional hike, walk to the store instead of taking the car at least once this year.
